UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State senior Jonni Parker was named the Big Ten Women's Volleyball Player of the Week on Monday after leading the Lions to the title at the Penn State Classic with 3-0 wins over Iowa State, Oregon State, and LSU. It is her first career Big Ten Player of the Week award.
Parker was named the MVP of the Penn State Classic. She led the team in kills with 35 (3.89/set) on .360 hitting. The fourth of those kills came in the first set of the first match against Iowa State and was the 1,000th of her career. She added 22 digs (2.44/set), 11 blocks (1.22/set) and three aces.
Penn State improved to 5-1 with the three wins and has won 15 consecutive sets during its five-match winning streak. The Lions dropped one spot to No. 18 in the AVCA Coaches Poll, which was released on Monday.
The toughest weekend of Penn State's non-conference schedule is up next as the Lion travel to Eugene, Oregon, for the Big Ten/Pac 12 Challenge. The Lions play the host Ducks, who are currently ranked 11th in the AVCA Poll, on Friday at 10 p.m. (ET). They follow that with a match against No. 14 Stanford on Saturday at 7 p.m. (ET).
