Penn State dominates Duquesne 18-4, Doherty notches 200th career win

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Penn State women's lacrosse team dominated Duquesne 18-4 on Wednesday afternoon.
 
The victory marked head coach Missy Doherty's 200th career win in her 18th total season and 12th season at Penn State. She now holds a 200-123 career record.
 
"I can't imagine a better team to have this win with than this year's team," said Doherty. "They are awesome hard workers and just a great team altogether.

"We were playing solid as a team on both ends today and did a great job on the draw controls. Finishing our shots was one of the things we wanted to push today, and the team did great job at that."
 
11 different Nittany Lions scored in the game with freshman Brooke Hoss having a standout four goals on four shots. Four PSU players had two goals apiece in sophomores Kayla Abernathy, Kristin O'Neill and Gretchen Gilmore plus junior Meghan Murray.
 
Along with Hoss, freshmen Lauren Saltz and Molly O'Keefe and sophomore Alaina Hamood scored their first collegiate goals.
 
Junior Kara Nealon had a team best three assists while junior Regan Nealon led the Lions with three ground balls and three caused turnovers.
 
As a team, the Nittany Lions out-shot the Dukes 31-to-12. In the first half, PSU limited the Dukes to just three shots and took a 13-0 lead at the break. Duquesne would not score until 13 seconds remaining of the third quarter.
 
The Blue and White also led on draw controls, 19-to-6 with Abernathy winning seven of them.
 
Goalies sophomore Cayden Jarvis and freshman Ashley Bowan notched three saves apiece.
 
The Nittany Lions are now 10-0 against the Dukes in their all-time series history.
 
PSU moves to 1-1 on the season, while Duquesne is now 2-2 overall.
 
Next, Penn State continues its four-game road trip, playing at Cornell on Sat. Feb. 26 and Loyola (Md.) on Sat. March 5.
