Wood Tabbed Big Ten Player of the Week

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State baseball junior catcher Matt Wood was selected Big Ten Player of the Week on Wednesday. Wood led the Nittany Lions to two wins over Maine last weekend.
 
Wood earned his first career Big Ten Player of the Week award by going 5-for-11 at the plate for a .454 average against the Blackbears.
 
In game one, on Friday, Wood collected two base hits, including a two-run single in the fifth, in a 4-3 win.
 
The Gibsonia, Pa. native singled and scored a run in Saturday's first game of the doubleheader.
 
In the night cap, Wood tallied two hits and crossed the plate three times in a 9-3 victory.
 
Through seven games this season, Wood owns a .458 batting average to go with a .917 slugging percentage and a .581 on-base percentage.
 
Among his 11 hits, Wood has two doubles and three homers. He has collected nine RBI and scored 12 runs.
 
Penn State travels to Charlottesville, Va. for a three-game series with No. 5 Virginia. The Cavaliers are 7-0 this season. Friday's matchup begins at 3 p.m., while Saturday and Sunday contests are at 1 p.m. All games will be broadcast on ACCNX.
