Opens in a new window NCAA Championships Women's Swimming Qualifiers

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State swimming's Marie Schobel was invited to swim the 100 back at the 2022 NCAA Women's Swimming & Diving Championships Wednesday afternoon.

The senior has earned three invitations to the swimming championships during her collegiate career.

"It is an honor to represent Penn State at the NCAA Swimming Championship again this year," said Schobel. "The competition this year is fast, and I feel confident I'm prepared to perform at my best. I am grateful to all of my Penn State coaches especially Steve (Barnes) and Tim (Murphy) for guiding me and believing in me."

Most recently she placed in the top-10 of the 100 back for the third year in a row on the B1G stage. She finished sixth (52.48) this year, and in 2021 and 2020 she touched sixth (53.11) and 10th (52.98).

Schobel also swam a personal best (1:54.37) in the 200 back and earned fifth place at the conference championships.

She's now Penn State's second and third all-time fastest 100 and 200 backstroke swimmer.

At last year's NCAA Championships, Schobel competed in the 100 and 200 backstroke, finishing in 22nd (52.66) and 39th (1:56.17).

She also qualified for the 2020 championships as a sophomore but couldn't compete due to COVID-19 cancellations.

The Championships will be held in Atlanta, Georgia from Wednesday, March 16 to Saturday, March 19 at the McAuley Aquatic Center. 281 swimmers and 41 divers will compete in the four-day meet.
