UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State track and field graduate student Victoria Tachinski has been named the Big Ten Women's Track Athlete of the Week after running the fourth-fastest 800m time in the NCAA this past weekend at the Florida Relays, as announced by the conference office Wednesday afternoon.
The Winnipeg, Manitoba native finished with a time of 2:04.02, which officially ranks as the third-fastest time in Penn State history, placing just behind Danae Rivers' 2:02.53 in 2017 and Bekka Simko's 2:03.09 in 2012. The time currently leads the Big Ten this outdoor season.
Tachinski's weekly conference honor marks the first won by a Penn State athlete this outdoor season, and is the fifth total won this year, with freshman Allison Johnson collecting three and pole vaulter Luke Knipe winning one during the indoor season.
The Nittany Lions return to action this weekend with split-squad action at Duke and the University of Miami (Fla.).
