BOSTON, Mass. – Six members of the 2021-22 Penn State men's hockey team were each honored by the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) as Krampade Division I All-American Scholars in the sixth year of the award's existence as announced earlier this week.
Recent graduate Clayton Phillips (Edina, Minn.) along with freshman Carson Dyck (Lethbridge, Alberta) were each honored for the first time while rising juniors Christian Berger (St. Louis, Mo.), Tyler Paquette (Collegeville, Pa.), Christian Sarlo (Lynbrook, N.Y.) and Liam Souliere (Brampton, Ontario) were named honorees for the second-consecutive year in 2021-22.
To qualify, a student-athlete must have attained a 3.75 GPA for each semester, and had to appear in 40% of the team's games. Exceptions were granted to injured players and back-up goaltenders.
The six members were the most out of all seven Big Ten teams by more than double as Notre Dame was second with three.
In total, 523 Division I student-athletes were honored earlier this week with 283 men and 240 women earning academic recognition.
