UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State men's basketball team will play seven of its 11 non-conference games in the friendly confines of the Bryce Jordan Center and open the season on Monday, Nov. 7, as the 2022-23 non-conference slate was announced Tuesday morning. The 2022-23 Penn State men's basketball season is presented by Highmark Health.
The Nittany Lions, who enter their second season under Peter and Ann Tombros Endowed Head Coach Micah Shrewsberry, will open the 2022-23 slate against Winthrop on Monday, Nov. 7. Winthrop went 23-9 last season and the Nittany Lions and Eagles are set to meet for the first time in program history.
Penn State remains home to host Loyola (Md.) on Thursday, Nov. 10 before welcoming Butler to the BJC on Monday, Nov. 14 in the previously announced Gavitt Games matchup.
The Nittany Lions' first tests away from home come in the Charleston Classic on Nov. 17-20. Penn State opens action in the three-game tournament against Furman on Thursday, Nov. 17, before taking on either Old Dominion or Virginia Tech on Friday, Nov. 18. Penn State's Sunday, Nov. 20 opponent will come from the other side of the eight-team bracket that features College of Charleston, Colorado State, Davidson and South Carolina.
The Nittany Lions return to the Bryce Jordan Center for a Black Friday battle against in-state foe Lafayette on Friday, Nov. 25 before traveling to Clemson for the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Tuesday, Nov. 29.
The final three non-conference games of the season will be played in Happy Valley, beginning with a Sunday, Dec. 18 contest against Canisius. Penn State hosts Quinnipiac on Thursday, Dec. 22 before wrapping up non-conference play against Delaware State on Thursday, Dec. 29.
Tip-off times and TV designations will be announced at a later date. The Big Ten schedule will be announced by the conference office in the coming weeks.
