Buena Vista, VA – On the back of a strong defensive performance, Men's Rugby managed a road win against a physical Southern Virginia, 24-15.
On a narrow field on the campus of SVU the defensive battle between the teams was evident from the opening whistle. Neither team found much space through or around so both tested the other with a territory based approach on the day. SVU opened the scoring, earning a penalty and going ahead 0-3. The remainder of the half was all Penn State, try's from Dalton Musselman and Will Bumbernick stretched the Lions lead to 15-3 going into half.
In the second half SVU were able to fight their way back with two try's, but the boot of Dalton Musselman kept the scoreboard ticking over for Penn State. As territory and pressure turned to penalties, Dalton took the opportunity to come away with points when they were on offer, nine points off the boot, kept Penn State in front and the eventual win on the day, 24-15.
The Lions return home for the Sheehy Cup against Mary Washington on Saturday, 5 November at 1:30pm on West Campus Field.
