ROSEMONT, Ill. – Senior forward Kevin Wall (Penfield, N.Y.) and junior goaltender Liam Souliere (Brampton, Ontario) were honored by the Big Ten as the First and Second Stars of the Week, respectively, following their performances during a weekend sweep against No. 20 RIT as announced by the league office on Wednesday morning.
For Wall it marks his first weekly honor this season and the third of his career while it is the second weekly plaudit for Souliere, both Second Star nods and both coming this season. Wall earns his first weekly honor since October 26, 2021, where he was also named First Star of the Week.
Wall paced Penn State to a home-and-home weekend sweep over No. 20 RIT with four points on two goals and two assists. The senior registered three points on two goals and one assist during a 6-1 victory on Friday night in his return to Rochester before adding the primary assist on Penn State's third goal in a 3-1 win back home in Hockey Valley on Saturday. His two goals on Friday marked his first multi-goal game this season and the fifth of his career and he is now riding a career-best six-game point streak (4-5-9). Wall is currently tied for third in the Big Ten with his 11 goals while his 20 points are tied for sixth.
Souliere improved to 15-4-0 on the year following the sweep after stopping 51-of-53 shots on the weekend for a .962 save percentage allowing just one goal per game. The junior is currently tied for the national lead with his 15 victories this season while his .923 save percentage and 2.10 goals-against average rank tied for ninth and 11th in the nation, respectively. Souliere's goals-against average tops the Big Ten while his save percentage is good for second in the conference.
Souliere's 15 victories this season are already good for the fifth most in a single season in Penn State history while his 23 career wins place him third all-time.
The Nittany Lions have this weekend off before resuming Big Ten play with a trip to No. 14 Michigan State next weekend.
