ROSEMONT, Ill.- Sophomore Josh Karnes earns his first Big Ten Gymnast of the Week honor after a standout performance in Penn State's 407.600-401.450 win against no. 3 Michigan on Saturday.
In Karnes' first all-around performance of the year after returning from injury, he earns the highest score of a Nittany Lion yet this season and the second highest nationally with a 83.750. He took one other event title on the night with a 14.100 on still rings.
Karnes landed two second place finishes on floor (14.050) and parallel bars (14.700). His 14.700 on parallel bars is a career high for the sophomore and an overall Penn State season high on the apparatus. Karnes also notched a career high on vault with a 14.350, finishing in third place.
The Pennsylvania native will travel to the Winter Cup in two weeks to compete among the top gymnasts in the country at a two-day event in Louisville, KY.
Penn State has clenched four of six Gymnast of the Week honors this season.
