Men's Gymnastics Set to Compete at Illinois

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA.- Penn State men's gymnastics takes on its first conference road meet of the year at Illinois on Saturday, Feb. 4. The competition will start at 5 p.m. and will be streamed on Big Ten Plus. 
 
Penn State is ranked sixth in the Road to Nationals rankings and rank fourth in the Big Ten.

LAST TIME OUT
Penn State lost their opening conference match-up against Nebraska last weekend 398.000-399.550.
 
Sophomore Josh Karnes tied his career high taking a first-place event title on parallel bars with a 14.350 and a stick bonus. He also finished with a career high on pommel horse with a score of 13.250  and scored a 13.600 on high bar.
 
Michael Jaroh notched a 14.200 to finish first on rings for the second consecutive time in a home meet and placed second with a score of 14.100 on parallel bars. The Nittany Lions cliched the top five scores for still rings. Ian Raubal finished second (14.000), Matt Underhill and Matt Cormier tied for third (13.850) and Nate Warren came in fifth (13.700). 
 
Michael Artlip tied his career high of a 14.450 on vault to place second. On floor Artlip placed second with a score of 13.900, while Cormier earned third with 13.850 and Will Fleck finished fourth clenching a career best score of 13.350. 
 
HISTORY WITH IllINOIS 
Illinois claimed the victory in the last meeting between the Nittany Lions and lllini in 2022. The final score of the competition was 396.550- 397.250. 
 
The Nittany Lions posted season-best scores at the time on vault (71.65), high bar (64.400) and pommel horse (65.600). Jaroh won three individual events. He won outright on rings (14.050) and parallel bars (13.800) and tied teammate Chase Clingman on pommel horse with a season best (13.600). 
 
The all-time record between the two teams is 15-9, with Penn State holding the advantage. 
 
SCOUTING THE ILLINI
Illinois finished in second place at the Oklahoma Tri-Meet against Oklahoma and Air Force with a team score of 404.450. Connor McCool earned second place on floor with a score of 14.600. Illinois claimed the top two scores on rings with Ashton Anaya clinching first (14.000) and Josh Cook right behind (13.600).
