Four Nittany Lions Will Compete at the Winter Cup This Weekend

LOUISVILLE, KY.- Josh Karnes, Matt Cormier, Michael Artlip and Michael Jaroh travel to Louisville, Kentucky for the 2023 USA Gymnastics Winter Cup hosted in Freedom Hall. The competition culminates in the selection of the Junior and Senior National Teams, which will be announced following the competition. The Winter Cup is also a qualifying event to the 2023 U.S. Gymnastics Championships.

Cormier and Karnes made the U.S. Senior Development Team in the fall at the 2022 U.S. Championship, which allows them to compete at the Winter Cup for a spot on the National Team. Artlip and Jaroh's all-around scores of 77.000 and 80.950 at the Navy Open qualified them for the event. The Winter Cup will consist of nearly 100 gymnasts including Olympians, World medalists and collegiate gymnasts.

The competition will begin on Friday, Feb. 24 with the senior men competing at 1:30 p.m. in the all-around. The second day of the event will be on Sunday, Feb. 26 at 5:30 p.m. for the event finals. Following the conclusion of the contest on Sunday, the Junior and Senior National Team members will be named.
