CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Penn State Softball (7-3) fell to the Boston Terriers, 7-5, in its final game of the Queen City Classic on Sunday.

Penn State and BU traded punches throughout the game, but in the end, it was the Terriers who went out on top thanks to a home run in the top of the sixth inning. The Nittany Lions got boosts from Kathryn Rex, Kaitlyn Morrison and Liana Jones, who all hit home runs.

Kylee Lingenfelter started on the mound for the Nittany Lions, while Vanessa Oatley, Paige Maynard and Bailey Parshall all saw action in relief.

The Nittany Lions came out hot, and jumped on BU pitcher Kasey Ricard. Leadoff hitter Maggie Finnegan sent a ball past the centerfielder putting her on second base. Two batters later, Jones hit a ball to the left field bushes and the Nittany Lions took a 2-0 lead. Morrison then picked up where she left off with another home run for the weekend. The Nittany Lions exited the first inning with a 3-0 lead.

The Terriers struck back in the top of the third inning when Kayla Roncin hit a single, which drove Audrey Sellers in from second base. Later in the inning, Brooke Deppiesse sent a two-out, two-run home run over the left field wall to tie the game at three..

The Nittany Lions didn't waste time jumping back in front as Rex sent a solo shot to center field to put the Nittany Lions in front 4-3.

Boston University took the lead in the fifth inning with some small ball play. Caitlin Coker scored on a wild pitch after singling to begin the inning. Deppiesse scored on a ground out to the shortstop and the Terriers were up, 5-4.

Penn State came back to tie the game in the bottom half of the inning when Lydia Coleman singled and then Lauren Marcotte doubled two batters later to drive in Coleman. The Nittany Lions loaded the bases later in the inning but couldn't manufacture anything and the game stayed tied at five.

Boston took the lead for good in the sixth inning, as Roncin got a hold of a ball that put the Terriers up 7-5.
