WILLIAMSBURG, Va.- Penn State men's gymnastics concludes its regular season with a 396.400-382.750 win at William & Mary. The Nittany Lions earn their fourth win of the season with a 4-2, 1-2 Big Ten record. Penn State took three event wins on pommel horse, rings and high bar while William & Mary grabbed the other three on floor, vault and parallel bars.
"It wasn't the meet we envisioned but there were some bright spots nonetheless," said head coach Randy Jepson. "Ethan Dick did great on high bar and Ian Raubal performed well in the all-around so it was good to get some depth on those guys. Now, we will look to get as healthy as we can for Big Ten Championships in two weeks."
Penn State got off to a slower start on floor, falling behind 63.300-61.350 but finished pommel horse strong with a five-point event lead over the Tribe and three-point overall lead. The Nittany Lions had the top three scores on rings and won the event by nearly eight points at a score of 68.550-61.050 and extended their team overall lead to 196.850-186.450.
William & Mary took the vault title with a close 69.050-68.900 finish. Although the tribe came away with the higher parallel bars team score, Penn State's Raubal won the event title and kept the overall lead with the Lions. Raubal and Michael Artlip tied for first place on high bar to seal the Nittany Lions victory.
Raubal took first place in the all-around for the second time this season with a score of 80.700. He earned event titles on rings (14.200), parallel bars (13.650) and tied for first on high bar (14.00) with a career best score.
Ethan Dick also competed in the all-around finishing in second with a 78.400. He took second on vault with a 14.100 and earned a third-place finish on high bar with his personal best score of 13.950. The New Zealand native also matched his season high on pommel horse with a 13.800 and second-place rank.
Freshman Will Fleck was the final all-around gymnast for the Nittany Lions and finished in fourth with a 75.500. He notched a high score of 13.350 for his freshman campaign on high bar and matched his season best on vault with a 13.950.
Senior Nate Warren had one of his best showings this season with two second-place titles on rings (14.150) and a career best (13.400) on parallel bars.
Josh Karnes competed in just two events but took his second consecutive event title on pommel horse with a 13.900.
