UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State Softball's Bailey Parshall was awarded Big Ten Pitcher of the Week for her performance this weekend in Virginia Beach at the Pirate-Spartan Classic.
Parshall, who earns her fourth career weekly honor from the league and second of the season dominated this past weekend, pitching two complete games totaling 13 innings while not allowing a single earned run against her. Parshall tallied 14 strikeouts over the weekend and walked two opposing batters. Batters tallied just four hits against Parshall, none of which were for extra bases. Parshall's dominant performances helped lift the Nittany Lions to an 11-1 victory over Delaware and an 8-1 win over Hampton.
This marks the third time Penn State has won Big Ten weekly honors this year. Earlier this season, Parshall and freshman pitcher Paige Maynard won Pitcher and Freshman of the week.
The Nittany Lions are off to a 10-3 start on the season. Penn State travels to Tampa, Fla. next weekend for a five-game round robin tournament against USF, Marist, Saint Francis and Florida Golf Coast (two games).
