Men’s Gymnastics Earns a 412.057 at The NCAA Championship Finals

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- Penn State men's gymnastics earns 412.057 at the 2023 NCAA Men's Gymnastics Championship Finals. This score is the team's second highest team score of the season.

"It was an incredible effort this entire year especially towards the end at Big Tens and NCAA Championships which is what we were working towards," said head coach Randy Jepson. "We went 87-of-90 routines in the last three meets but we just weren't sharp enough to pull of a trophy for the team tonight. That doesn't take anything away from their efforts and their accomplishments this whole season and I couldn't be more proud."

Josh Karnes took fourth in the all-around with his score of 82.964 and Matt Cormier took fifth with his score of 81.864.

The Nittany Lions started off the evening on high bar once again. Cormier led the way with a 13.966, good for sixth-place followed closely by Ian Raubal with a 13.866. Raubal also notched a stick bonus to finish his routine.

Cormier guided Penn State on floor with a 14.300, his fourth score of 14.000 or higher in his last four outings.

Michael Jaroh entered the lineup on pommel horse for the second day in a row to take the highest score of the Nittany Lions and finish eighth of all gymnasts.

Back-to-back-to-back stick bonuses for Nate Warren, Matt Underhill and Ian Raubal on still rings lifted Penn State to its second highest rings score of the season at 68.965. Warren's score was a 14.000 and Underhill posted a 14.233 with his second stick in two nights to land in seventh place. Rauabl topped his score from Prelims the night before with a 14.200, his second highest score of the season.

Another five scores above 14.000 on vault for the Nittany Lions pushed them into fifth place. Topping his career high, previously set in the qualifying round the previous night, Josh Karnes scored a 14.733 to lead Penn State's scores and take seventh place.

The Big Ten parallel bars Champion Josh Karnes led the Nittany Lions with a 14.633 on parallel bars to medal bronze in third. Cormier landed in fifth with a 14.466 and stick bonus.

Penn State finishes its season with eight All-Americans. Jaroh earns the honor on pommel horse, Underhill on rings, Karnes on vault, parallel bars and the all-around and Cormier on parallel bars, high bar and the all-around.
