WESTMONT, Ill. – Penn State swimming and diving had five student-athletes tally 15 final appearances in their respective events at the TYR Pro Swim Series at FMC Natatorium Thursday-Sunday.
Freshman Eduardo Cisternas was the first Nittany Lion to appear this series in the men's 800 Free. Cisternas led for an 11th place finish at 8:08.92 and Chilean national record.
On Thursday, five student-athletes hit the lanes in the final events that evening, beginning with freshman Catherine Meisner in the 200 Free who finished 18th at 2:03.01. Mariano Lazzerini then swam to 18th in the men's 100 Breast at 1:02.69, followed by Emma Harvey in the women's 50 Back for a 29.29 finish in the top 10 overall at eighth place. Sophomore Victor Baganha and senior Will Lulek took to the lanes for the final events of the evening. Baganha raced the men's 100 Fly at 53.56 for a 15th place finish, and Lulek the men's 400 IM at 4:28.85 and a 14th place finish overall.
Seven squad members competed on Friday, with freshman Julia Meisner up first in the 200 Fly who landed 22nd at 2:21.84. Lazzerini and Lulek teamed up for the 200 Breast with Lazzerini taking 17th overall at 2:17.58, and Lulek placing 22nd at 2:21.12. Catherine Meisner and Cisternas joined for the 400 Free. In the women's heats, Meisner landed 20th overall with a 4:23.27 finish, and Cisternas hitting the top 10 for the men with a final time of 3:54.75. Harvey and Baganha took on the 50 Fly later on, Baganha (24.32) touching 17th and Harvey (27.01) finishing 22nd.
On the final day of competition, Lazzerini and sophomore Jack Harvey represented on deck in their respective events. Harvey hit the men's 100 back at 2:04.37 after touching 19th, followed by Lazzerini in the men's 50 Breast with a top 10 finish at 28:57.
