CHICAGO, Ill.- The Penn State men's gymnastics teams qualified five current student-athletes and one alumni for the 2023 U.S. Championships in San Jose, Calif. from Aug. 24-27. Michael Artlip, Matt Cormier, Michael Jaroh, Josh Karnes and Landon Simpson will represent the five current Nittany Lions and 2020 graduate Stephen Nedoroscik will represent Penn State alumni in the Golden State.
"Great effort by our guys yesterday, I am really proud of our qualifiers, both Michaels joining Josh, Matt and Landon," said head coach Randy Jepson. "Our freshmen showed a lot of heart and I am excited to see what they'll bring to the table this season. We're looking forward to traveling with our five guys to California for the Championships in a couple of weeks to make Penn State's presence known."
Karnes, Cormier and Simpson all pre-qualified for U.S. Championships earlier this year at the Winter Cup as well as Nedoroscik.
Jaroh placed 14th in the all-around with a 76.950 this past weekend at the Core Classic in Chicago Ill. His 13.800 on high bar earned him a fourth-place finish. Artlip finished in the top-10 on both floor and vault. His 14.050 on floor landed him in eight and his 14.450 on vault earned him ninth.
The five Nittany Lions along with Nedorscik will travel to California for the U.S. Championships Aug.24-27 to compete against the top gymnasts in the country.
