PRINCETON, N.J.- The Penn State Nittany Lions swimming and diving team concluded the Princeton Invitational this weekend turning in several top performances on the final day of the event.
The men's side was dominant during Sunday's meet winning four events while the women's team stayed competitive with a plethora of great swims.
Both the mens and women's team finished in the second position for the meet overall.
Top Swims
Eduardo Cisternas began the afternoon for the men by winning the mile swim for in an impressive 15:02.89 which was five seconds faster than the second place finisher.
The men's team stayed hot throughout the afternoon as Lachlan Byrne finished in the third position in the 200 yard back posting a time of 1:43.11. Cooper Morley followed him in the sixth position posting a 1:45.46.
Catherine Meisner began the day for the women's team posting a fifth place finish in the 100 free for the Nittany Lions with a time of 50.11. Meisner was followed by Victor Baganha on the men's side who turned in fast times all weekend and blazed a 42.75 in the 100 free touching just before the second place finisher.
Like Baganha, Mariano Lazzerini continued a strong weekend by winning the 200 breast in an impressive 1:54.84.
Top Relays
The women's 400 yard freestyle relay team of Catherine Meisner, Marly Lough, Margaret Markvardt and Abby Henderson flew to a second place finish posting a fast 3:18.25. Morgan Moore, Ellie Brandbergh, Carly Sebring and Maura Fluehr finished behind them with a 3:21.47.
The men's 200 yard freestyle team of Tylor Kim, Baganha, Morely and Byrne continued the Nittany Lions winning performances finishing the final event of the weekend in 2:53.30.
Kevin Sullivan and Maura Fluehr were each the recipients of the Big Al Trophy which is awarded to one female and one male swimmer that overcame challenges both in and out of the pool.
The Nittany Lions will take the holiday season break off and return to action in the new year against Army on January 12 at 5 p.m.
