UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State Men's Volleyball's John Kerr was named the EIVA Offensive Player of the Week on Monday after putting together an outstanding opening weekend of play in wins over Central State and No. 16 Lewis.
Kerr turned in one of Penn State's best individual performances in nearly a decade in the sixth-ranked Nittany Lions' 3-2 win over No. 16 Lewis on Saturday night, hitting .417 with 31 kills, nine digs, four aces, and two blocks. The 31 kills were the most in a match by a Nittany Lion since Aaron Russell's 32 in a five-set match against Ball State in 2015. The kill total was a career high for Kerr, as were the ace and dig totals.
For the weekend, Kerr hit .443 while averaging a ridiculous 5.43 kills/set. That includes a 3-0 win over Central State in which he hit .600 with seven kills, one ace, and two digs.
It is the second-career EIVA Offensive Player of the Week Award for Kerr. He won the award after leading Penn State to wins over No. 5 Pepperdine and No. 8 Stanford at last year's First Point Collegiate Challenge in Austin, Texas.
Penn State is back at Rec Hall for its next two matches. The Nittany Lions host Lees-McRae on Thursday at 7 p.m., and King University on Saturday at 4 p.m.
