Kerr Earns Second-Career AVCA National Player of the Week Award

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State Men's Volleyball's John Kerr added another award Tuesday as he was named the AVCA National Collegiate Player of the Week for his performance in wins over Central State and No. 16 Lewis. The honor comes one day after he was lauded as the EIVA Offensive Player of the Week.

Kerr's week was highlighted by a career-high 31-kill night in a 3-2 win over No. 16 Lewis in which the 6-5 opposite racked up 25 kills over the third and fourth sets alone. He hit .417 in the match while adding career highs in digs (9) and aces (4). The 31 kills were the most in a match by a Nittany Lion since Aaron Russell's 32 in a five-set contest against Ball State in 2015 and came just two days after he hit .600 with seven kills while playing in two sets of a sweep over Central State.

For the week, Kerr hit .443 while averaging 6.29 points/set and 5.43 kills/set. He totaled 38 kills, five aces, 11 digs and two blocks over the two wins.

Kerr was named the AVCA National Collegiate Player of the Week for the second time in his career. He earned the same award in January of last season after leading Penn State to wins over No. 5 Pepperdine and No. 8 Stanford at the First Point Collegiate Challenge in Austin, Texas. Kerr is the first Nittany Lion to receive the honor in back-to-back seasons since Chris Nugent in 2016-17.

Penn State is back at Rec Hall for its next two matches. The seventh-ranked Nittany Lions host Lees-McRae on Thursday at 7 p.m., and King University on Saturday at 4 p.m.
