UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- The Penn State Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving teams had several members invited to the NCAA Championships on Wednesday following a fantastic season of swimming action.
The group was headlined by the men's trifecta of sophomore Mariano Lazzerini, junior Victor Baganha and junior Cooper Morley. Graduate senior Daphne Wils was also invited to the meet on the women's side.
Wils will dive in in the one and three-meter springboard dive after achieving zone qualifying times at the last chance meet this past weekend held at Princeton University.
Lazzerini was selected to compete in the 100 and 200 breaststroke at the NCAA Championships, two events that he dominated a week ago at the Big Ten Championships. There, Lazzerini won the 100 breast in a fast time of 51.08 and finished fifth in the 200 breast with a time of 1:52.94.
Baganha was selected to compete in the 100 fly where he finished in fifth with a time of 45.43 at the Big Ten Championships.
Morley was selected to swim in the 100 back after putting up a great performance at the Big Ten Championships where he finished second with a time of 45.27. His prelim time of 44.74 was his best of the season in the 100 back.
As well as the four individuals, the men's 200 and 400 medley relay teams were also selected to compete at the NCAA Championships. Lazzerini, Baganha, Morley and sophomore Matthew Bittner will compete in both events with freshman Tylor Kim, senior Lachlan Byrne and senior Tommy Hurley acting as alternates for the group.
The Nittany Lions will compete at the NCAA Championships Thursday, March 28 through Saturday, March 30 at IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind.
