Penn State Triumphant in Day 2 of Ohio State Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Nittany Lions showcased another triumphant day of competition in the second day of the Ohio State Invitational, earning a multitude of career-best performances and NCAA B Cut qualifying times. 

Men

After setting a new personal record just two weeks ago, junior  Cooper Morley broke his own PR again in the 100 Fly, finishing third in the preliminary competition with a 46.14 time, he then matched this performance with a 7th place 46.43 finish in the finals. 

Sean Honey also set a new personal best in the 400 IM finals with a 3:45.98 time, good for a sixth place finish in the event. 

Teddy Blake and Ryan McNutt battled to new career-best times in the 200 Fly finals; Blake with a 1:38.74, and McNutt with a 1:38.26.

Cooper Morley was the lone podium finisher in the men’s finals competition, touching second in the 100 Back with a 45.72. Matthew Bittner tallied an eighth place finish, swimming for a career best time of 46.30. The third Nittany Lion to finish was Jack Harvey with a 47.10; all three of which qualified for B cut times. 

Women

Graduate Margaret Markvardt continues a record weekend, swimming for a new career-best time in the 100 Fly with a 52.37, finishing sixth in the preliminary competition. The Estonia native matched this performance with a 52.64 finish in the finals, good for fifth place. 

Markvardt added a personal best in the preliminary round of the 100 Back, finishing with a 52.81. The Estonia native finished out the event finals with a 54.13.  

The 400 IM saw two Nittany Lions record career-best swims; sophomore Morgan Jenny swam for a career-best 4:22.46 finish in the 400 IM, after beating her own personal best in the preliminary competition with a 4:26.16. Freshman Julia Barto recorded a career fastest 4:18.56 finish, after beating her personal best in the preliminary competition with a 4:20.01. 

Relays

The infamous men’s 200 Medley relay team that competed in last year’s NCAA Championship swam for their season-fastest time with a 1:24.69 finals time, preceded by a 1:25.41 preliminary time. Their record finish placed them fourth overall in the event.
