Penn State Football
Visiting Student-Athletes Postgame Press Conference - Washington – November 9, 2024
Carson Bruener | LB | Sr.
Q: Carson, you mentioned that they averaged almost seven yards a carry, just defensively as a group, what do you think you guys need to do to match a team like that’s physicality?
A: I mean really just be more physical, its simple. Getting seven yards a carry means linebackers weren’t getting off blocks fast enough at the line of scrimmage and it’s tough so we just have to be more physical, pay more attention to details on just our job and our assignments.
Q: Is that just something the program has to learn, because it looks like the upper tier Big Ten teams are just far superior at holds and the rest of it.
A: I don’t think it’s a program thing. I think overall we have a lot of new players coming in, we have a new system, but we can’t use it as an excuse going out here. I mean, you just need to execute, plain and simple. We can’t go out here, let four drives, four touchdowns, 7/7 for third downs, I mean that’s just not acceptable.
Q: Carson, are some of these issues on defense you’re talking about are the same issues you guys have had against Iowa and Indiana, or are these different?
A: Some similarities showed up today that happened during Iowa, but I mean it’s all in the review, just talking with Steve, watching the iPad. I mean we got to go back home, win one at home.
Jonah Coleman | RB | Jr.
Q: When you go through this kind of environment, what do you think you guys can learn from this, and what does it take to learn how to win on the road?
A: It’s tough. We have guys that haven’t started games or played a game on the road in college ball and it’s tough obviously. But, no excuse, I mean we just have to play better on the road.
