Ryan Earns CGA Rookie of the Week Honors in Second Week of NCAA Competition

The recognition is the first of Ryan’s NCAA career

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Graduate student Kellen Ryan of Penn State Men’s Gymnastics has been named the College Gymnastics Association (CGA) Rookie of the Week, the organization announced Wednesday afternoon. Ryan earns the second honors of the season after Carson Eshleman of Michigan won week one.

Ryan is a graduate transfer from the University of Minnesota pursuing a graduate certificate in Engineering Leadership and Innovation Management. He competed on the club gymnastics team all four years in the Twin Cities. His first NCAA collegiate action came with the Nittany Lions at the West Point Open.

Against Army, Ryan posted his first ever event title with a 13.950 on vault. He also posed the second highest ring score at the meet with a 13.250, a new career high. For his efforts, he was named received the event’s Gene Wettstone award, which highlights the most outstanding athlete of the meet.

Ryan and the rest of the men’s gymnastics team are back to action this weekend when the team hosts William & Mary on Saturday, January 25 at Rec Hall. Action is set to begin at 4 p.m. with doors opening at 3 p.m.
