UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State men's and women's fencing teams hosted the final regular season home event of the 2024-25 season on Sunday, Jan. 26 at the Multi-Sport Facility. The Nittany Lions competed against fencers from Penn, Temple, North Carolina, Columbia, Haverford and Princeton.
Penn State vs. Haverford- Penn State's men’s team opened up against Haverford and posted a dominant win in saber (8-1) and epee (6-3) but dropped a close dual in foil (5-4), winning by a final score of 18-9. The women's team also dominated Haverford, winning by a final score of 24-3. They had a clean sweep in saber (9-0) and foil (9-0) and a (6-3) win in epee.
Penn State vs. Wagner- In the match against Wagner, the men’s team showcased their prowess with a 22-5 win. They were strong with a shutout in foil (9-0), and wins saber (5-4), and epee (8-1). The women's team also triumphed over Wagner 21-6, winning in foil (8-1), and saber (7-2) and epee (6-3)
Penn State vs. Princeton- The Nittany Lions faced Princeton in Round three. The men’s team had a win in epee (5-4) but fell in saber (5-4) and foil (7-2), giving Princeton a 16 -11 win. The women’s team dropped a close 15-12 dual versus Princeton. They won in saber (6-3) but fell in foil (7-2) and epee (5-4)
Penn State vs Columbia – The Lions battled Columbia in round four. The men’s team dropped a 16-11 dual to Columbia. They won in saber (6-3) and lost in foil (5-4) and epee (8-1). The women’s team dropped their dual against Columbia 21-6, losing in saber (7-2), foil (8-1) and epee (6-3).
Penn State vs Penn- Round five pitted Penn State vs. Penn. The men’s team dropped their dual 16-11, winning a close bout in saber (5-4) but falling (5-4) in foil and (7-2) in epee. The women’s team narrowly lost their dual against Penn 15-12, winning in epee (6-3) but falling in saber (6-3) and foil (6-3).
Penn State vs Temple- The women’s team battled Temple and fell in saber (7-2), foil (6-3) and epee (7-2) dropping the dual 20-7.
Penn State vs North Carolina – The men’s team dropped a 16-11 dual to North Carolina. The Lions fell in saber (7-2) and foil (5-4) but won a close dual in epee (5-4). The women’s team also dropped their dual versus the Tar Heels 18-9. They fell in saber (5-4) and foil (5-4) and epee (8-1)
Following this weekend’s action select Penn State Fencers will compete in the Duke Invitational in Durham, N.C February 8th & 9th!
