UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The No. 11 Penn State men's lacrosse program hits the road for the first time this season as they face in-state rival Villanova on Sunday, February 9 at noon.

HISTORY

  •  Penn State currently leads the all-time series 20-9.
  • The last time the two teams met was on February 10, 2024 when Penn State defeated the Wildcats 18-10.  

SCOUTING THE WILDCATS

  • VIillanova enters their first match this season against Penn State.
  • In the 2024 season, Villanova wrapped up their season with a 9-7 record and 2-3 record in Big East play. 
  • The Wilcats return their top point getter in Matt Licata who had 56 points on 36 goals and 20 assists.
  • Licata was named to the Preseason All-Big East team for 2025.   
  • Goalkeeper Anthony Wilson returns in net for the Wildcats who played and started in all 16 games last season as he had a 10.34 GAA, save percentage of .495 and record of 9-7.

 

 

FRACYON ON FIRE

  • Penn State goalie Jack Fracyon allowed only nine goals in the teams season opener against Colgate on February 1. 
  • It was the 22nd time in his career he’s let up less than 10 goals in a single game.

TRAYNOR NAMED TO USILA TEAM OF THE WEEK

  • The United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association named Penn State men’s lacrosse senior Matt Traynor to their Team of the Week as the association announced on Wednesday. This is Traynor’s third time on the USILA Team of the Week in his career. 
  • Traynor stood out in the men’s lacrosse team’s season opener on Saturday, February 1 against Colgate. He tallied five goals and two assists for the Nittany Lions, which led the team. It’s just the second time in his career he has tallied seven points or more in a single game. 
  • The last time he hit that mark was against Cornell in the 2024 season, where he registered eight points on March 9, 2024. Traynor sits one point away from 100 career points following his seven-point outing as he stands with 99 on 83 goals and 16 assists.

TEAM CAPTAINS

  • Penn State head coach Jeff Tambroni named Matt Traynor, Jack Fracyon and Kevin Parnham as team captains for the 2024 season. 
  • Parnham, Traynor, and Fracyon are entering their fourth seasons as Nittany Lions.
  • The three have played in a combined 105 games at Penn State so far in their careers.

  • Senior Jack Fracyon will wear the No. 11 jersey for the first time in his career.
  • The No. 11 is presented to a young man who has persevered in the face of adversity. 
  • The No. 11 jersey, worn by Michael Jacober, 2002-05, has become symbolic of the strength and compassion of the 2005 Penn State lacrosse team who rallied around Michael after his family was tragically killed in a plane crash during his senior season.

  • Senior Kevin Parnham will wear the No. 16 jersey for a first season.
  • Since 2016, to a senior who best represents the “Heart of a Competitor” in honor of our “Teammate for Life” Connor Darcey. Connor passed away tragically on June 12, 2015 in a car accident, prior to his redshirt junior season.
  • The No. 16 is passed down by the student-athlete who had the honor of wearing the No. 16 during the previous season.
