Florence Caron Becomes a School Record Holder as Track and Field Wraps Up Strong Performance at Raleigh Relays

Nittany Lions turn out two top-five marks in program history

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State track and field teams turned in five personal-record performances and three top-10 marks in a strong two-day showing at the Raleigh Relays Thursday and Friday.  

IN THE RECORD BOOKS  

Florence Caron started off her outdoor regular season in a grand fashion by becoming the new school record holder in the women’s 10,000-meter, completing the race in 32:26.52.  

TOP PERFORMANCES  

Nick Sloff dominated the 5000m for Penn State after he finished 33rd, running at 13:49.03 to move into the No. 4 spot in program history and set a PR. Concurrently, Jake Allen set a new PR of 13:56.70 and finished 48th overall to earn the No. 10 spot in program history. 

Christopher DeSousa led the trio of Penn State runners competing in the 1500-meter on day one, earning a team-leading 54th place overall. DeSousa set a new PR for the 1500-meter event with a time of 3:47.69.   

On day two, Sarah Pickering led the trio of women runners in the 1500-meter, finishing at a time of 4:22.36 to place 47th overall. Not too far behind Pickering was Lea Hatcher, who finished 53rd overall at 4:23.59.    

DAY 1 SUMMARY  

TRACK EVENTS  

 Men’s 1500m  

  • DeSousa set a PR of 3:47.69 to earn 54th overall 
  • Haas placed 59th overall with a time of 3:48.01 
  • Jacob Smith finished 97th overall, setting a new PR of 3:50.56  

Men’s 3000m steeplechase  

  •  Justin Healey finished 65th overall with a time of 9:23.91  

Men’s 5000m 

  • Sloff finished 33rd overall, clocking in at 13:49.03  
  • Allen came in 48th overall and set a new PR of 13.56.70  

Men’s 10,000m  

  • Brendan Flynn finished 95th overall with a time of 29:55.31  

DAY 2 SUMMARY  

TRACK EVENTS  

Women’s 1500m  

  • Pickering finished 47th overall with a time of 4:22.46 
  • Hatcher clocked in at 4:23.59 and finished 53rd overall  
  • Hannah Boyle finished 118th overall and recorded a time of 4:30.41 

Women’s 3000m steeplechase  

Women’s 5000m  

  • Dallas came 95th overall and ran at 16:49.61 to set a new PR  

Women’s 10000m Invitational  

  • Caron finished in 5th place and set a new school record of 32:26.52  
  • Toti came in 22nd overall with a time of 33:39.54
