UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State Women’s Tennis (14-9, 5-8 B1G), the 12-seed in the Big Ten Tournament, faces off against fifth-seed Wisconsin (17-4, 10-3 B1G) on Wednesday, April 23 at 3 p.m. at the Ojai Valley Tennis Club at Libbey Park in Ojai, California.  

All Big Ten Women’s Tennis Tournament matches will be live streamed on B1G+.The winner will face No. 4 seed UCLA on Thursday at 3 p.m. in the quarterfinal round. 

Big Ten Women’s Tennis Tournament History 

  • The program received a first round bye as the 10-seed at last season’s event before beating No. 7 seed Iowa 4-2 in the second round. It was the program’s first victory at the Big Ten Women’s Tennis Tournament for Head Coach Alexandra McIntyre. 
  • The Nittany Lions fell in the quarterfinals to No. 2 seed Ohio State, 4-1.  
  • The program made the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Women’s Tennis Tournament for three consecutive seasons from 2005 to 2007.

  • Penn State fell, 4-0, to No. 24 Wisconsin on Sunday. 
  • The Nittany Lions celebrated the careers of seniors Deanna Lasorda and Yvonne Zuffova with a Senior Day ceremony at Sarni Tennis Center prior to the beginning of the match. 

Scouting Report  

  • The Badgers finished the regular season fifth in the Big Ten standings. Wisconsin is ranked No. 23 in the country according to ITA with a 17-4 (10-3 B1G) record.   
  • Outside of the Penn State match, Wisconsin dropped to No. 10 Ohio State, 4-0, in Columbus, Ohio over the weekend.
  • Maria Sholokhova and Ariel Johnson are ranked No. 48 by ITA. On court one doubles, they are 11-1 this spring with a 6-0 Big Ten record. 
  • Sholokhova, ranked No. 9 in singles by ITA, boasts an impressive 17-2 (9-1 B1G) record during the spring.

  • The Badgers lead the all-time series 23-10. 
  • The Nittany Lions fell to Wisconsin, 4-0, to end the regular season on Sunday, April 20.
