A long-time college head coach with deep Pennsylvania roots, Pat Flannery enters his first season as Director of Basketball Initiatives at Penn State.
A Pottsville, Pa. native, Flannery was the head men’s basketball coach at Lebanon Valley College from 1989 to 1994 and Bucknell from 1994 to 2008, compiling a 329-221 career head coaching record.
Flannery retired from coaching in 2008 after his 14 seasons on the sideline at Bucknell where he led the Bison to 243 wins as the second-winningest coach in school history. Flannery guided the Bison to the Patriot League’s first-ever NCAA Tournament win in 2005 when his Bison defeated Kansas. Bucknell then went on to beat Arkansas in the 2006 NCAA Tournament for its second-straight first-round victory.
Flannery spent five seasons at Lebanon Valley College where he coached head coach Mike Rhoades and together they won the NCAA Division III national championship in 1994.
Upon his retirement from coaching, Flannery served as a senior development officer at Bucknell before serving as the general manager of Happy Valley United’s men’s basketball chapter.
Flannery and his wife, Patti, have two sons, Jesse and Ryan. Jesse is currently an assistant coach with Bucknell men’s basketball.
