Three-time All-American Franz Boghicev heads into his final year at Penn State looking to claim the ultimate prize. The native of Germany has national title aspirations and the skills to come through on those plans. With nearly 80 career wins and three top eight finish at nationals, Boghicev heads into the year as one of the national title contenders in the saber.
Lion Career: 2006-07: Boghicev went 27-3 in 2006-07 and grabbed a runner-up finish at the Mid-Atlantic/South Regionals. He placed eighth at nationals to earn his third straight All-America honor. Boghicev posted dual match records of 15-3, 5-0 and 7-0 and was an Academic All-Big Ten selection. Boghicev has 76 career victories against only nine defeats.
2005-06: He went 25-2 in dual matches last year, only dropping solo matches to St. John[apos]s and MIT while reeling off dual match records of 14-1 and 11-1. Boghicev missed Penn State[apos]s December dual match date. He finished fourth at Regionals, earning at NCAAs in Houston where he claimed sixth place and his second All-America tag. He also was in the top 16 at the World Cup in Athens.
2004-05: Boghicev went 24-4 as a freshman, posting an impressive .857 winning percentage as a rookie. He was runner-up at Mid-Atlantic/South Regionals and had a superb run at nationals, placing fourth and earning All-America laurels.
HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL: A native of Dormagen, Germany, Boghicev brings over ten international cadet and junior medals with him, including a bronze at the European junior championships in 2003 and a silver in the 2002 Cadet World Championships. Boghicev was a junior World Cup champ in 2003, the German National Junior Camp in 2002 and the National Cadet Champ in 2001.
