Chris Doctor enters his seventh season as an assistant coach with the Penn State men’s lacrosse team during the 2017 season.
In charge of the face-off crew, Doctor’s coaching has been pivotal in Penn State’s progress at the position. The Nittany Lions ranked fifth in Big Ten conference face-off percentage in 2015 with Drake Kreinz posting the fourth-best clip in the league and the 22nd best in the nation.
In 2013 en route to a CAA regular season crown and an NCAA appearance, he helped Danny Henneghan to a 57.5 faceoff winning percentage in 2013 as Henneghan earned All-CAA First Team. Henneghan graduated from Penn State as the school’s all-time leader in faceoff wins.
Prior to Penn State, Doctor served as offensive coordinator at Lafayette for four seasons (2007-10). With the Leopards, Doctor assisted with planning daily practices and recruiting. He helped coach seven All-Patriot League players and a league Midfielder of the Year and Rookie of the Year.
At Lafayette, Doctor helped coach the nation’s leader in goals per game in 2009 and, in 2010, the team finished among the nation’s top 10 in goals per game as Lafayette made the Patriot League tournament for the first time in program history.
A four-year letter-winner at Rutgers (2004-07), Doctor earned the team’s Alfred Sasser Award as both a junior and senior for leading the team in assists. During his career, the Scarlet Knights recorded 29 victories in four seasons.
