CAREER HONORS -Two-time Honorable Mention All-American - 400 Medley Relay (2006, 2008)
Summer 2008: Abby competed at the U.S. Olympic Trials. She placed eighth in the 200 breast at the Charlotte Ultraswim. She took third in the 100 breaststroke at the North Carolina event.
2007-08: Abby returned to prominence after an injury-plagued sophomore season. She again qualified for NCAAs for the first time since 2006. She earned Honorable Mention All-American status for the second time in her collegiate career when her 400-medley relay team swam in 16th place. She also took 19th in the 100 breast preliminaries, recording her fastest time of the year. Abby also claimed 30th place in the 200 breast. At the Big Ten Championships, her 200-medley relay team was .01 off of fifth place. She also took 11th in the 100 breaststroke there. On the year, she had three first-place marks and six second- and third-place finishes. Meet-by-Meet Highlights: Second place in her only two events against West Virginia....Earned second-place in the 200 free in the Penn State Quad Meet....Swam her fastest 100 breast times of the season at Princeton, where she took second. Abby had five Top Three bookings in that invititational....Won the 200 medley relay over Pittsburgh, Maryland and Villanova....Claimed third in two events against Rutgers.
Summer 2007: Abby concentrated on her three main events over three summer competitions. She swam at the Grand Prix series Charlotte Ultraswim, qualifying for the finals in all three of her main events and finishing 12th in the 100 breaststroke, 23rd in the 200 breaststroke and 20th in the 200 IM. At the Mid-Atlantic Senior Championships, she placed sixth in the finals of the 200 breast and 11th in the 200 IM finals. She also qualified for U.S. Nationals, swimming in both the 100 and 200 breast.
2006-07: Abby[apos]s sophomore season was derailed by some injuries but she still rebounded to swim her fastest times of the year in her two main events at Big Ten Championships. After qualifying for NCAA Championships as a freshman, Abby fell just shy of repeating the feat as a sophomore but still managed to swim a pair of NCAA `B[apos] cuts in both breaststroke events. She also scored in both breaststrokes at Big Ten[apos]s, finishing ninth in the 100 breast and 10th in the 200 breast. She also swam in the 200 IM at Big Ten[apos]s, swimming her second-fastest time of the year. On the year, Abby had two first place finishes in individual events and was a part of two first place relay teams as she swam on both the 200 and 400 medley relay teams throughout the year. She had the third-fastest time of the year on the team in the 100 breast and the fourth-fastest in the 200 breast. Meet-by-Meet Highlights: Won the 200 IM in her fastest time of the year, finished fifth in the 200 breast and was part of the second place 400 medley relay team in the meet at West Virginia....Swam her fastest times of the year in both the 100 and 200 breast, finishing fourth in the 100 and tied for sixth in the 200 and also was part of the winning 200 medley relay and the fifth place 400 medley relay teams at the Clemson/Virginia/Virginia Tech/Penn State quad-meet....Finished third in the 200 breast at the Big Cat Invitational....Swam in both breaststroke events and the 200 IM at the Bell Grand Prix....Won the 100 butterfly in only her second career swim in that event at the dual meet vs. West Chester....Finished second in the 200 IM and was a part of the 200 medley relay team that tied for first place in the dual meet vs. Ohio State....Placed fifth in the 100 breast and was on the fourth place 200 medley relay team in the dual meet vs. Rutgers.
2005-06: Abby was one of four freshman swimmers to qualify for the NCAA Championships and one of 12 swimmers overall. She specialized in the breaststroke and also swam the IM and on several medley relay teams throughout the year. At the NCAA Championships, she swam in the 200 IM, the 400 medley relay, 200 medley relay, 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke. The 400 medley relay team finished 13th. At the Big Ten Championships, she placed third in the 200 and 100 breaststroke events, earning NCAA `B[apos] provisional times in both events, ninth in the 200 IM, and was on the third place 400 medley relay team. She swam her best times in the 100 and 200 breaststroke as well as the 200 IM at the Big Ten Championships. On the year, she won six individual races and was also a part of seven first place medley relay teams. At the Ohio State Invitational, she set a pool record with a time of 2:19.43 in the 200 breaststroke. Meet-by-Meet Highlights: Won the 100 breast, finished second in the 200 breast and was on the first place 200 and 400 medley relay teams in the Indiana/Ohio State/Penn State tri-meet....A member of the first place 200 medley relay team in the dual meet vs. Kenyon....Finished second in the 200 breast, fourth in the 200 IM and on the second place 400 medley relay team in the dual meet vs. Rutgers....Placed second in the 200 free and third in the 500 free in her only appearance of the year in those events, picking up points in both of them in the dual meet vs. St. Bonaventure....Took second in both the 100 and 200 breast and was on the second place 200 medley relay team in the dual meet at Florida....Took first place in the 200 breast, placed third in the 200 IM, fourth in the 100 breast, and was on the first place 400 medley relay team and the fourth place 200 medley relay team, gaining points for Penn State in all of those events at the Ohio State Invitational....Won the 200 IM, third in the 100 back and was on the second place 200 medley relay team in the dual meet with West Chester....A member of the first place 200 and 400 medley relay teams in the Auburn/Purdue/Virginia/Penn State quad-meet....Won the 100 breast at the Arizona State/UCSB/Penn State tri-meet....Part of the third place 400 medley relay team at the Arizona/Wisconsin/Penn State tri-meet....Won the 200 IM and the 200 breast and was also on the the first place 400 medley relay team in her first collegiate meet vs. West Virginia.
High School: Abby swam for just one season, her freshman year, at Blue Valley North High School in Overland Park, Kan., due to a rule in Kansas that only allows swimmers to compete either in club or in high school. Before that, most of her competitive swimming came for her club team. She was a team captain of her club team her senior year and finished first in the sectionals in the 100 breaststroke. As a freshman, she was second at the state meet in the 100 butterfly and the 200 IM.
Personal: Abby was born on February 24, 1987 in Houston, Texas. She is the daughter of Scott and Tracy Hoisington and has a younger brother, Nathan, and a younger sister, Hannah. She is majoring in supply chain and information systems with a minor in Spanish.
