Alvin Futrell joined the Penn State Performance Enhancement staff in April 2014. He started his career in strength and conditioning as a graduate assistant at Western Kentucky University from 2006-2008. His primary sport was football and he assisted with men's basketball and men's and women's golf.
In 2008, he was hired at Tennessee State University as the assistant director of strength and conditioning. He designed programs for men's basketball, men's track, women's softball and assisted with football. Alvin was promoted to the director of strength and conditioning in 2010 and oversaw eight varsity sports. In his tenure at Tennessee State University he helped lead the football team to two consecutive winning seasons and to the second round playoffs of the FCS NCAA.
Alvin has a bachelor's degree in Exercise Science and a master's degree in Kinesiology from Western Kentucky University. He is a Certified through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (C.S.C.S), the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (S.C.C.C) and U.S.A. Weightlifting Level 1 Sports and Performance Coach.
