Dr. Herickhoff graduated summa cum laude from Creighton University, completed medical school at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and orthopaedic surgery residency training at the University of Iowa. After residency, he began practicing sports medicine and general orthopaedic surgery at Naval Hospital Beaufort, South Carolina as an active duty medical officer in the United States Navy. During his four years of service, Herickhoff served as Department Head of Orthopaedic Surgery and Podiatry, was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Commander, and received multiple awards, including the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal.
Herickhoff subsequently completed a Sports Medicine Fellowship at Stanford University, where he was a team physician for the San Francisco 49ers and Stanford Men’s Basketball, Football, and Women’s Volleyball teams. He joined Penn State Sports Medicine as an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery in 2017. Herickhoff currently serves as a team physician for Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics, Department Chair of Orthopaedic Surgery at Mount Nittany Medical Center, and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Pennsylvania Orthopaedic Society. His research interests include medical decision making, and promoting safe, advanced arthroscopic surgery techniques.
