Feb. 1, 2008

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; - The Penn State Women's Tennis will make their second road trip of the spring season to Winston-Salem, N.C. tomorrow to take on the No. 22 Demon Deacons of Wake Forest. Play will begin at 2 p.m. at the Wake Forest Indoor Center.

The Nittany Lions (1-1) opened their season at home with a 7-0 sweep of Bucknell on Jan. 22, but fell, 6-1, on the road at now No. 45 Denver. The match against Penn State will be the first home match of the season for the Deacons. The Deacons began their spring season last weekend with a 4-2 loss at the hands of No. 15 William & Mary.

The Nittany Lions are led by junior Dorothy Dohanics (Pittsburgh, Pa.) who is undefeated in both singles and doubles so far this season. In singles play, Dohanics had a 6-3, 6-1 win over Caitlin Baffa of Bucknell and went on to defeat Kaja Smole of Denver (6-1, 6-2) less than a week later. Dohanics has had two convincing doubles wins while paired with fellow junior Lauren Holzberg (Easton, Conn.). In Penn State's win over Bucknell, Dohanics and Holzberg clinched the doubles point for the Nittany Lions with a convincing 8-2 win over Dara Dwojewski and Baffa. The pair continued their dominance in Denver with an 8-3 win over Bhavani Tirumurti and Smole.

"We've had a solid week of practice," said head coach Dawna Prevette. "We're looking forward to seeing our improvements on the court this weekend."

Following this weekend's trip, the Nittany Lions will be back at the Penn State Indoor Tennis Center as they prepare to take on Marshall and Yale. Action begins Friday, Feb. 8 at 5 p.m. versus Marshall with Yale following on Sunday. Admission to both events is free.
