Men's Basketball's Talor Battle and Women's Track and Field's Shana Cox Named Student Athletes of the Week

Feb. 19, 2008

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - For the second time in the month of February, men's basketball's Talor Battle (Albany, N.Y.) and women's track & field's Shana Cox (Westbury, N.Y.) have been named the Penn State Student-Athletes of the Week.

Battle was a key player in the Nittany Lion's 52-51 win over Big Ten opponent Illinois. The freshman scored the last nine points of the game including a pair of go-ahead free throws with seven seconds remaining.

The guard posted a team-high 14 points, six rebounds and four assists in the game, tying his career high rebound total. It marked his sixth straight double-figure outing and the third time he has led the Nittany Lions in scoring in the last five games.

Shana Cox

Cox, the seven-time NCAA All-American, wowed the crowd again at the Tyson Invitational. She ran a trio of provisional marks including an NCAA-leading 52.57 in the 400-meters. This is the top collegiate time and made her the third competitor overall behind only professionals.

The sprinter also ran outstanding legs in the 4x400-meter relay, in which the Nittany Lions finished third in the elite invitational section on Friday night, running 3:37.14. Penn State's team would give the relay a second try on Saturday, finishing as the top collegiates and second overall with a time of 3:35.61.
