Women's Golf Finishes in Tied 18th Place at Pinehurst Challenge

Pinehurst, N.C.- After the third and final round of the Pinehurst Challenge, the Nittany Lions finished tied for 18th place with a score of 962.

After round scores of 80 and 77, junior Sara Lester continued her improvement when she shot an impressive four-over 76 in round three. Lester was the top finisher on the team. Senior Christin Pacacha, sophomore Katherine Murphy and senior Megan Padua also improved their scores from round two. Freshman Brianna Malcolmson shot six-over 78 to finish second out of the Nittany Lions.

East Carolina pulled ahead of East Tennessee State, who led throughout the first two rounds. East Carolina shot 910 and finished ten strokes ahead of East Tennessee. Individually, Steffi Kirtchmayr, who led after both first and second rounds, finished first in the tournament with a score of 217.

The women's golf team will next compete in the Bryan National Collegiate in Greensboro, N.C. beginning on March 28, 2008.
