Manakin-Sabot, Va. - The Penn State men's golf team finished tied for ninth after the opening two rounds of the VCU Shootout. The Nittany Lions ended the day at six-over par (574).
The two-day tournament requires that the first day hold 36 holes, and leave 18 for the final day. With its first round the Nittany Lions scored a ten-over par (294). The second round proved more successful for the Lions with a four-under par finish (280). The Lions will head into their final round tomorrow tied for ninth with Southeast La. University.
Freshman Nick Archambault (St-Jean-Sur-Rich, Q.C., Canada) leads the Nittany Lions tied for 18th at one-under par. Archambault fired a one-over par (72) first round and a two-under par (69) second round, with a two-round score of 141.
Junior Kevin Foley (Sommerville, N.J.) stands tied for 25th at even par (142) with a first round of three-over par (74) and a second round of three-under par (68). Junior T.J. Howe (Osceola, Pa.) finished tied for 43rd with a one-over par (72) first round and a two-over par (73) second round.
Junior Jim Markovitz (Bridgeville, PA) and Tommy McDonagh (Wilton, Conn.) both finished the day tied for 62nd with a score of 148. Markovitz opened up with a six-over par (77) and fired a second round even par (71). McDongh shot a five-over par (76) first round and a one-over par (72) second round.
The final round of the VCU shootout will begin tomorrow at 8:45 with all groups beginning at different holes. The awards will follow the conclusion of play.
