The Penn State women's golf team is currently in a tie for sixth place after the first round of the Spider Invitational with a score of 318. The tournament, which is taking place in Midlothian, Va., is currently led by Longwood University who shot a first round score of 302.
Junior Giulia Carando (Torino, Italy), who competed as an individual, is currently in a tie for fourth place after recording a first round score of 75. Senior Katherine Murphy (Portsmouth, R.I.) led the starters with a score of 77 in the first round, good for a tie for 14th place. Junior Gia Fanelli (West Palm Beach, Fla.) followed close behind, with a score of 79 for the day and a tie for 22nd.
Freshman Hanule Seo (St. Louis, Mo.) recorded a first round score of 80. Freshmen Emily Ransone (Hilliard, Ohio) and Jamie Lavin (Deerfield, Ill.) both put together scores of 82 in the first round.
The second and final round of the Spider Invitational will take place tomorrow, October 13.
