UNCG Fall Classic Final Results
After a round was rained out yesterday, the Penn State women's golf team completed the second round of the UNCG Fall Classic in fifth place. Because of the rain, the tournament was turned into a two-round event instead of three. The Nittany Lions posted a total score of a 28-over-par 604 (308-296). This score is the sixth best 36-hole total in school history, and the second round of 296 is tied for fifth place on the school's best single rounds list.
Freshman Ellen Ceresko (Jefferson Township, Pa.) competed as an individual and finished with the best score on the team. She carded a 2-over-par 147 (73-74) and finished in a tie for fifth place. The score of 147 is tied for the 10th best two-round score in school history. Sophomore Emily Ransone (Hilliard, Ohio) matched Ceresko's round with a 147 (72-75) of her own.
Sophomore Hanule Seo (St. Louis, Mo.) finished the tournament in 19th place after posting a 151 (+7). Senior Gia Fanelli (West Palm Beach, Fla.) followed close behind Seo, carding a 153 (82-71) and earning a tie for 26th place. Her second round of 71 is a new career-best for Fanelli, beating her previous best of 72 at the 2008 Bucknell Invitational.
Senior Giulia Carando (Torino, Italy) finished one stroke behind Fanelli, notching a 154 (78-76) in the tournament. She ended in a tie for 29th place. Senior Brianna Malcolmson (Murwillumbah, Australia) rounded out the field for the Nittany Lions with a tie for 61st place and a score of 161 (81-80) in the tournament.
East Carolina University posted a 19-over-par 595 (310-285) to take the team title in the tournament. North Carolina State also tallied a 595 as a team, but the fifth-card tiebreaker gave the title to East Carolina. Alex Buelow of Stetson University and Brittany Marchand of North Carolina State are co-champions in the tournament, each carding a 3-under-par 141.
The Penn State women's golf team will host its annual tournament, the Nittany Lion Invitational, on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 2 and 3. The tournament will take place at Penn State's Blue Course in State College, Pa.
