RIO VERDE, Ariz. -
After the opening round of the Rio Verde Invitational in Rio Verde, Ariz., the women's golf team is currently third place. The team posted an 18-over-par 306 in the first round of the tournament hosted by Western Michigan.
Sophomore Emily Ransone (Hilliard, Ohio) carded a sold round of a 1-over-par 73, leading the team on the first day. She is currently in a tie for sixth place, three strokes off of the lead. Freshman Christina Vosters (Bethany Beach, Del.) is also near the top of the field, notching a score of 76, good for a tie for 15th place.
Senior Gia Fanelli (West Palm Beach, Fla.) came in just behind Vosters with a 78 (+6) and is tied for 19th place. Freshman Ellen Ceresko (Jefferson Township, Pa.) was one stroke back of Fanelli and carded a 79. Sophomore Hanule Seo (St. Louis, Mo.) finished with an 84.
Eastern Michigan leads the field with a 6-over-par 294, six strokes ahead of Michigan. Yugene Lee of Michigan and Darby Peters of Eastern Michigan are tied for the individual lead, each posting a 2-under-par 70 on the day.
The second round of play will take place tomorrow, March 5. The round will begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. MT.
