Previous Penn State basketball season ticket holders have more reasons than ever to renew their accounts, as several new benefits highlight the 2012-2013 packages. Fans who renew their season tickets or purchase new season tickets on or before July 27th will be eligible to join the Nittany Lion Basketball team and coaching staff on Thursday, August 9 at WINGFEST at Tussey Mountain. The season ticket holder event, which will start at 5:30 p.m., will mark a new way to thank current and future season ticket holders, and will be free of charge to all season ticket holders. A rain date of August 30 has been set should the August 9 event be rained out. RSVP forms will be sent out early in July so fans can indicate their intentions to attend the season ticket holder event.
Also included in the season ticket holder benefits package this year is a season long complimentary parking pass good for all Bryce Jordan Center lots, which will begin charging $5 for parking at all Nittany Lion and Lady Lion home games this season. Season ticket holders will receive their parking pass in their season ticket mailing, which should arrive sometime in mid to late October. Season ticket holders will receive one (1) parking pass for accounts of up to three seats and two (2) parking passes for accounts of four seats. For accounts of greater than four seats, one additional parking pass can be purchased for $50. Replacement passes will also cost $50.
Season ticket holders will enjoy other new benefits throughout the season. Included among them are a season ticket holder T-shirt, which may be picked up at home games, and a "Shoot-Around" event, in which ticket holders can enjoy taking shots and games with Penn State players on the Jordan Center floor and provided snacks. Season ticket holders will also receive first priority for tickets to any postseason tournament.
Penn State is also announcing the first chance for fans to participate in a referral program for Penn State Basketball. The referral program offers season ticket holders the opportunity to refer three potential new fans and receive a credit to their account for the following season equal to 10% of the value of any season tickets or PNC Bank Flex Books those new fans purchase. The referral program provides tangible, real savings, while allowing fans to help to fill the Jordan Center to support the Nittany Lions.
Head Coach Patrick Chambers will open his second season at the helm of the Nittany Lion program. First-team All-Big Ten guard Tim Frazier (Houston, Texas) returns for his senior season to lead a Penn State team that returns four players that started at least 16 games last year and its top two scorers in Frazier, who finished second in the Big Ten at 18.8 ppg, and junior guard Jermaine Marshall (Etters, Pa.), who posted 10.8 ppg. Bolstering that group will be Southern Mississippi transfer D.J. Newbill (Philadelphia, Pa.) who sat out last season after posting 9.2 ppg and 6.2 rpg as a freshman for the Golden Eagles in 2010-11. Penn State will return 70 percent of its scoring, 60 percent of its rebounding and 78 percent of its assists from a team that posted a 12-20 mark in Chambers' first season.
The Nittany Lions have announced four dates on the 2012-13 schedule. Penn State previously announced a season opening match-up with St. Francis (Pa.) on Friday, Nov. 9 at the Jordan Center, the resumption of the oldest series in program history with a match-up vs. Bucknell in the BJC on Nov. 23, an ACC/Big Ten Challenge clash vs. Boston College on Nov. 28 at the BJC, and its participation in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off, Nov. 15-18.
