BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Penn State men's tennis team begins the ITA Atlantic Regional on Thursday in Blacksburg, Va. The regional is hosted by Virginia Tech. Eleven Nittany Lions will make the trip. The matches will be played at Virginia Tech's The Qualifying Singles round starts on Thursday.
The tournament will continue on Friday with Main Draw Singles and Doubles. The tournament continues until the finals on Tuesday.
Ramy Labna (Doha, Qatar), David Kohan (Sydney, Australia) and Chris Young (Melbourne, Australia) all start in the qualifying singles round.
Labna will take on UMBC's Daniel Gray in the first round, while Kohan faces Morgan State's Evan Ward. The senior, Young, meets Temple's Sam Rundle.
Starting on Friday, eight Nittany Lions begin the Main Draw.
Alex Fennell (Bala Cynwyd, Pa.), Russell Bader (Austin, Texas), Roman Trkulja (Toronto, Canada), and Matt Barry (Lido Beach, N.Y.) all received first-round byes. Bader is the 12th seed in the draw.
Freshman Christian Lutschaunig (Richboro, Pa.) matches up against UMBC's Alex Drean in the first round, while fellow freshman Nika Dolidze (Tbilisi, Georgia) takes on Richmond's Jacob Dunbar.
Marc Collado Castells (Barcelona, Spain) faces George Washington's Shane Korber in the first round. Junior Michael Reilly (Raleigh, N.C.) meets Richmond's Canyon Teague.
Barry and Lutschaunig combine in doubles, while Castells and Dolidze also pair up.
Bader and Fennell are another pair and receive a first-round bye. Kohan and Young combine as well.
Reilly and Trkulja also earned a first-round bye.
