Men's Fencing Finishes Undefeated at Notre Dame Duals

Updated Penn State Fencing Stats

Penn State fencing had an outstanding showing this weekend in South Bend, Indiana. Both teams had a great turn out and there was great action from many fencers throughout the day. The Penn State men's team overall went undefeated on the day.

The men beat Ohio State University 17-10, Notre Dame 18-9, Wayne State University 17-4, Detroit 25-2, and Cleveland 22-2. The Penn State women's team overall went 5-1 for the day and only fell to Notre Dame 13-14. The women beat Ohio State 15-12, Wayne State 23-4, Detroit 27-0, Cleveland 24-0 and Northwestern University16-12.

Stand-out individual results from the day are as followed:

Sophomore Yasser Mahmoud (Quincy, Mass.) and freshman Conor Shepard (Colleyville, Texas) both went 6-2 in the men's epee event while sophomore Frazaan Karimi (Medfield, Mass.) finished 7-2.

In the men's foil event, senior Jeremy Goldstein (Westport, Conn.) went 11-3 on the day. Junior David Gomez-Tanamachi (Mexico City, Mexico) finished 9-4 while freshman Howie Chan (Hong Kong) finished 7-2 in the event.

In the men's saber event, freshman David Akrami (Plano, Texas) and junior Pawel Puchalski (Lake Forrest, Ill.) went undefeated 7-0. Senior Adrian Bak (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) also went undefeated 6-0.

In the women's epee event, freshman Jessie Radanovich(Frisco, Calif.) saw a lot of action throughout the day finishing out 13-5. Sophomore Jessica O'Neill-Lyublinsky (North Salem, N.Y.) also saw a lot of action finishing the day 14-4.

Penn State saw a great showing from three underclassmen fencers in the women's foil event. Freshmen Desree Ortega-Furgeson (Wyoming, Mich.) and Daniella Ortiz (Bayside, N.Y.) finished the day 9-2 and 10-2, respectively. Sophomore Clarisse Luminet (Lyons, France) went 10-2.

In the women's saber event, freshman Teodara Kakhiani (Tbilsi, Georgia) completed the day 9-1. Junior Elizabeth Rapp (Portland, Ore.) finished 13-3 while sophomore Brianne Cavaliere (Wayne, N.J.) went 7-2.

The Nittany Lions return to collegiate action February 22nd when they face Duke, St. John's, Princeton, UPenn, and Temple (Women's) at Temple University in Phildelphia, Pa.
