UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -

The NCAA Men's and Women's Fencing Committee selected 144 competitors to participate in the 2014 National Collegiate Men's and Women's Fencing Championships. The event will be held beginning March 20th through the 23rd at Ohio State University.

Twelve Penn State fencers have been selected to compete in the championship, six fencers for each team (men and women) which is the maximum allotted number of fencers per school.

Competing for the men include freshman Conor Shepard and sophomore Yasser Mahmoud in men's epee, senior David Willette and sophomore Nobuo Bravo in men's foil, and senior Adrian Bak and sophomore Kaito Streets.

Competing for the women include freshman Jessie Radanovich and junior Jessica O'Neill-Lyublinsky in women's epee, sophomore Clarisse Luminet and junior Alina Antokhina and senior Nicole Glon and freshman Teodara Kakhiani in women's saber.

Penn State also had five fencers chosen as alternates for the weekend. Those fencers include Elizabeth Rapp, David Gomez-Tanamachi, Jeffrey Miller, and Jeremy Goldstein.

Heading into this weekend's competition, CollegeFencing360.com ranks Penn State first in men's fencing and fifth in women's. As a team, the Nittany Lions look to improve on last year's third place finish at Nationals. Penn State will be searching for its thirteenth National Championship, and its third in the last six years at this weekend's competition.
