UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; Dec. 10, 2014 - The Penn State women's ice hockey team closes out the fall semester by hosting nationally-ranked Mercyhurst this weekend, welcoming the Lakers on Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. and Dec. 13 at 2 p.m.

Fans attending Penn State women's hockey games at Pegula Ice Arena will have to comply with Penn State University's Bag Policy. Fans are advised that no bags larger than backpacks may be brought into the stadium grounds. All bags will be searched upon entrance into the arena. Parking for both games is free. Fans are advised to park in Jordan East or Beaver West, with additional parking availability in Orange F. If you're attending women's hockey, tell the parking attendant which event you'll be going to and you will not be charged.SCOUTING THE LAKERS
No. 6 Mercyhurst extended an eight-game unbeaten streak with a 2-0-1 record last week against Cornell and Lindenwood. The Lakers are coming off of a sweep of the Lions during which they outscored Lindenwood 11-4. November's CHA Player of the Month Emily Janinga leads the team's offensive charge as she ranks 11th in the NCAA with 1.35 points per game (14 goals, 13 assists). Amanda Makela, the reigning CHA Goaltender of the Month, leads Mercyhurst's staunch defense with a 1.00 goals against average and a .948 save percentage, the third- and fourth-best marks nationally.HISTORY IN THE MAKING
In their third varsity season, the Nittany Lions are producing the best campaign in the program's young history. The 2014-15 team, which is unbeaten is at least one game every weekend this season, has set Penn State's win (8) and shorthanded goal (2) records. The Nittany Lions have also captured a program-best seven CHA weekly honors. Individually, Shannon Yoxheimer now holds the season records for game-winning goals (4) and goals for a junior (8) and Amy Petersen is the school's record holder for goals (10) and points (19) by a sophomore.WONDERFUL WHITLINGER
Celine Whitlinger captured CHA Goaltender of the Week honors for a conference-best third time on Dec. 8 after she earned her second-straight shutout in a 5-0 win over Robert Morris on Dec. 5. The junior turned away a season-high 42 shots including 33 in the final 40 minutes to keep the Colonials off the board for just the second time this season. The solo shutout was the second in program history and the second in as many games for Whitlinger. Whitlinger, the only goaltender in program history to win CHA Goaltender of the Week, improved her record to 5-4, marking a career-high win total.POWER PLAY POWERHOUSE
The Nittany Lions have produced one of the top power plays in the country, scoring at least one power play goal all but one weekend this season. Amy Petersen and Laura Bowman lead the team with three goals each, tied for 13th nationally, helping Penn State to the 14th-best power play in the NCAA (20.0%).MINNETONKA MAGIC
Amy Petersen, Laura Bowman and Hannah Ehresmann have helped lead the Nittany Lions to its best start in program history at 8-7-3. Petersen is tied with Bowman for third in the conference with 1.06 points per game and her 0.56 goals per game, the 24th best mark in the NCAA, are second in the conference. Bowman ranks second in the CHA with 0.61 assists and 0.39 powerplay points per game. Ehresmann's 1.95 goals against average and a .938 save percentage are the conference's third-best marks.WHAT AN HONOR
For their historic start to the season, the Nittany Lions have been rewarded famously with CHA weekly awards. Celine Whitlinger is a three-time Goaltender of the Week honoree, a conference-best. Hannah Ehresmann and Caitlin Reilly both captured Rookie of the Week accolades, with Reilly earning a pair of Rookie of the Week honors, while Laura Bowman is a Player of the Week pick. The seven CHA weekly honors are the most in a season in program history.THAT'S A PLUS
Jordin Pardoski has taken her role as team captain to a new level. The junior ranks second in the CHA with an outstanding +8 rating, two points higher than Emily Laurenzi's single season record of +6, set in 2012-13. Pardoski has two assists and six shots on the season.REILLY ROUNDS UP WEEKLY HONORS
Caitlin Reilly was named the CHA Rookie of the Week for the second time this season on Nov. 17 after she scored two goals including the overtime game-winner in the 3-2 weekend finale win at RIT. She put the Nittany Lions on the board with 2:19 left in the first period after tapping in the 1-0 goal from the top of the slot. Her second goal came three minutes into overtime when her shot from behind the goal line bounced off of Ali Binnington's back and in to the net. She took nine shots in the victory, tied for the season-high by any Nittany Lion. In the first game, she recorded two shots.BOW DOWN TO BOWMAN
Scoring two goals each in both wins against Colgate, Laura Bowman was named the CHA Player of the Week on Nov. 10. The sophomore finished the weekend with a +3 rating after scoring four of her six goals this season, including both game-tying goals in Hamilton, New York. In the 3-1 series finale win, she scored back-to-back goals, including a tally on the powerplay, for the come-from-behind win and threw a season-best seven shots on net. She netted the game-tying goal and took five shots in the 6-4 weekend-opening victory.NEXT TIME OUT
Penn State returns from winter break on Jan. 3 with a home series against Ohio State at 7 p.m. The teams rematch on Jan. 4 at 2 p.m.
