UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Members of the Penn State baseball team are having successful summers in collegiate summer leagues, led by rising senior pitcher Jack Anderson in the Cape Cod League. Below is an update on the Nittany Lions competing this summer.
Jack Anderson -- Cotuit Kettleers
RHP Jack Anderson is pitching well in the prestigious Cape Cod League. Anderson holds a 1.63 ERA and 2-1 record with 10 strikeouts in 11 innings pitched. He has yielded just two runs on eight hits and two walks, and has settled into a primary setup role. On July 6, Anderson pitched a season-high 3 1/3 innings of one-hit ball to earn the win, as Cotuit edged Bourne with a two-run, ninth-inning comeback, 4-3.
Dakota Forsyth -- Baltimore Redbirds
RHP Dakota Forsyth is also enjoying a strong summer in the Cal Ripken League. He has made six appearances and four starts for the Baltimore Redbirds, posting a 1.20 ERA (sixth-best in the league), 3-0 record and one save. Forsyth also has 15 strikeouts in 22 1/3 innings pitched. The Redbirds boast a league-best 20-7 record.
Christian Helsel -- Battle Creek Bombers
IF Christian Helsel is batting .288 with a home run and 13 RBIs in 31 games in the Northwoods League. He has heated up recently, riding a six-game hitting streak and totaling a homer and 9 RBIs in his last 11 games.
Nick Riotto & Alex Malinsky -- Galion Graders
OF Nick Riotto is batting .400 in 13 games so far with seven RBIs. He went 4-for-4 with two doubles on June 23, and drove in four of the teams five runs on July 1, going 2-for-3 with a walk and HBP. C Alex Malinsky is batting .229 with five RBIs in 15 games.
Jake Pilewicz -- Riverhead Tomcats
RHP Jake Pilewicz holds a 2.36 ERA and 2-2 record in eight appearances and four starts in the Hamptons League. He has struck out 19 batters in 26 2/3 innings pitched.
Jim Haley -- North Adams Steeplecats
IF Jim Haley is off to a slow start, but has hits in five of his last seven games. He went 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs in a June 28 game against Laconia.
