Penn State women's swimmers Katelyn Sowinski (Severna Park, Md.) and Casey Francis (East Meadow, N.Y.) both added the 400-meter freestyle to their list of events for the U.S. Olympic Trials, as both swam below the qualifying standard in the race at the 2015 USA Swimming Philips 66 National Championships Thursday.

Sowinski swam in the preliminaries of the 400 free in 4:16.51, while Francis completed a time trial in 4:17.04.

Sowinski previously qualified in the 800 free, while Francis did the same in the 400 individual medley, at the Mid Atlantic Senior Championships July 22-24.

The PSU men's team also had two student-athletes competing. Andy Schuehler (Camden, N.J.) swam in the prelims of the 100 breaststroke, touching the wall in 1:02.79, while Matt Stasiunas (Avondale, Pa.) swam in the prelims of the 400 free, touching in 4:02.74.

The Philips 66 National Championships continue at the Northside Swim Center in San Antonio through Monday, August 10.

Stasiunas will be the lone Lion competing Friday in the 200 free. Francis will return to the pool Saturday in the 400 individual medley, and teammates Haley Sinatro (West Hartford, Conn.) and Melissa Rodriguez (Chihuahua, Mexico) will also compete in the 100 breaststroke. Sowinski will swim twice Sunday, competing in the 200 butterfly and joining Francis in the 800 free. Rodriguez will round out the competition for the Lion swimmers Monday in the 200 breast.
