UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Penn State men's tennis team begins the fall tournament portion of the 2015-16 season this weekend. The Nittany Lions will be headed to the Ivy Plus Invitational in Princeton, NJ and the UVA Ranked Plus One in Charlottesville, Va. Both tournaments start Friday and conclude Sunday. Most of the Blue and White will be heading to Princeton with some of the team to Charlottesville.
Head Coach Jeff Zinn and his Nittany Lions have been preparing for the fall season, setting the stage for the spring campaign. Penn State finished last season with a 15-15 record including five wins in the Big Ten and nine wins on their home court.
The Ivy Plus Invitational will take place at the Lenz Tennis Center. The Snyder Tennis Center in Charlottesville will be the host for the UVA Ranked Plus One tournament.
Thomas Hanzlik (Prague, Czech Republic) returns for final year after leading the Nittany Lions last season with an overall 22-14 record. Senior Roman Trkulja (Toronto, Canada) returns after his 18-13 run last season. Matt Barry (Lido Beach, N.Y.) returns as a senior as well after posting a 17-11 record last year. David Kohan (Sydney, Australia) also returns.
Senior Leonard Stakhovsky (Kiev, Ukraine) and junior Aws Laaribi (Rye, N.Y.) return after a strong 7-7 doubles record last season. Juniors returning to the team include Christian Lutschaunig (Richboro, Pa.), Marc Collado (Barcelona, Spain), and Nika Dolidze (Tbilisi, Georgia). Collado and Dolidze ended 2014-15 season with 10-7 and 12-11 records respectively.
The Nittany Lions add four new comers to their roster this year including Matt Galush (Cary, N.C.), Ben Lieb (Newtown Square, Pa.), Zach Lieb (Newtown Square, Pa.) and Oliver Otero (Miami, Fla.). Penn State returns to action on October 15-18 at the ITA Regionals in Blacksburg, Va., in its next action.
